Mobile phone carrier Vodafone Australia has just announced that a new handset was made available for purchase on its airwaves, namely the Nokia X3 Touch and Type, which, as its name suggests, offers a combination of a touchscreen with the physical keypad, for expanded functionality.

In addition to putting together a traditional phone keypad with a touchscreen display, the new device also comes with a slim design, as well as with an affordable price tag attached to it.

Unfortunately, Vodafone did not announce specific info on the price tag of this device via its online portal, as it made the mobile phone available for purchase only through its stores.

According to the wireless carrier, “a combination of a touchscreen with the physical keypads means you have access to your X3 to entertain with a familiar touch.”

Although only a Series 40 6th edition handset, the new Nokia X3 Touch and Type still offers a nice range of features to its users, including Internet access, social networking, email and IM, and more.

“The super slim Nokia X3 Touch and Type has a unique combination of a touch screen and traditional phone keypad. The keypad is optimized for one hand and ideal for messaging and calls, while the touch screen allows easy access to social networking and smooth Internet browsing,” Nokia describes it.

The specifications list of Nokia X3 includes a 2.4-inch resistive touch screen that can deliver a 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA TFT) resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video capture in QVGA at up to 20 fps.

Moreover, the mobile phone comes with 50 MB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16 GB of additional storage space.

Other specs of this device include GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA: 850/900/1900/2100 connectivity, complemented by WiFi (WLAN 802.11 b,g,n) and Bluetooth capabilities.

The Nokia X3 Touch and Type also sports Nokia Messaging Service 3.0, Opera Mini, Adobe FlashLite 3.0 support, Java MIDP 2.1 support, access to Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and other online social networks, and more.
