Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced on Friday that users of its popular Nokia Messaging service would be able to enjoy the Windows Live Messenger on their homescreens. The company has included the widely known Microsoft instant messaging application in the push-email service so as to provide users with more communication options.

“The world’s most popular instant messaging service, Windows Live Messenger, is now available via Nokia Messaging. Accessible through the Nokia Messaging Chat application, people worldwide can have multiple conversations simultaneously, change their status and personal messages, and manage their Windows Live buddy lists straight from their homescreen,” a recent post on Nokia Press Bulletin Board states.

This is the first time when Windows Live Messenger comes to the Nokia Messaging service, and it is capable of providing users with tabbed chat windows, as well as with the possibility to call friends directly from their buddy list. Moreover, the installment will also offer them the notifications of new messages that pop up when the app is running in the background, so as to enable an enhanced multitasking experience.

Users will also have the opportunity to enjoy features available on the desktop version of Windows Live Messenger, including the “Invisible” login, through which one can sign in into the messaging app but still appear offline to contacts. Other features available for Nokia Messaging users include grouped contacts, emoticons and sounds.

The first mobile phone to already include support for Windows Live Messenger through Chat is the Nokia E72. However, the owners of a Nokia E63, Nokia E71 or Nokia E75 can download the ‘Nokia Messaging for IM’ from Ovi Store to enjoy the same features. More handsets are expected to see support for the new IM capabilities in the near future, Nokia also stated.
