Nokia announced that it continues to bring new innovations for the Symbian S60 operating system, in order to offer users the best mobile experiences. The new S60 OS will come with features that take the user experience to another level and help operators, manufacturers and developers to create new types of handsets, services and applications.

Besides all the access options that currently exist, S60's touch user interface will enable licensees to develop phones with different input methods, whether we talk about devices with touchscreen and traditional keypad, touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard or touchscreen alone with stylus of finger optimized input. The touch user interface supports tactile feedback, meaning that when a user taps on the screen it will produce physical pulse and feedback, providing better appreciation of the phone's response and improving this way the user experience.

The S60 Web Browser will have integrated Flash Video making S60 the first mobile software platform that can deliver complete Web video experience, allowing users to access Flash-enabled Web sites and Flash Video, like YouTube, exactly as from a desktop PC.

The new UI Accelerator toolkit of S60 will easily allow remarkable graphical effects development as well as new interaction types. S60 will also bring sensor support as a generic solution that enables support for different sensors in S60 phones. This makes way for a new kinetic world to users, offering advanced opportunities for game and application developers.

Matti V?nsk?, Vice President, Mobile Software Sales and Marketing, Nokia, said: "S60 on Symbian OS offers a great platform to innovate with Internet services. We see experiences converging, and people demanding more and more of the functionalities that smartphones offer, both of which highlight the significance of ease of use. The focus of our strategy is to give people choice and simplicity - both key to delivering the best user experiences to add value to people's lives."

All the above mentioned technologies will be available for S60 device manufacturers starting 2008.
