But still no official announcement from Nokia

Nokia E71 and E66, the new Eseries handsets rumored to be released soon by the Finnish company, will indeed see the light of day (or of the mobile market) in the near future. Although the E71 was said to be officially announced by Nokia on the 8th of May, this didn't happen. Even so, we now have lots of images with the smartphone, as well as most of its features.

Boy Genius Report got the chance to have a closer look at the new Nokia E71, unveiling the fact that it's the thinnest Eseries ever. Moreover, the handset is full of nice features - it would have been weird no to be.

The E71 looks very business-like, so I'm not sure it will manage to attract too many users who want fashionable devices. Anyway, the smartphone is, after all, made for business users, so it looks accordingly.

Among the features of E71 we have quad-band GSM connectivity with EDGE, plus UMTS/HSDPA (for both the US and the rest of the world), GPS, Wi-Fi, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 240 x 320 pixel display with 16 million colors, Bluetooth 2.0, miniUSB, Nokia Mail For Exchange, the latest Symbian S60 3rd Edition OS, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, microSD card support and a 1500 mAh battery that should provide pretty good talk and stand-by times. All these are packed in a case slightly slimmer than the one of Apple's iPhone, so we're talking about a thickness of around 10 millimeters.

While there are many new images with the E71, Nokia E66 appears in only one picture. Even so, we can see it's a slider that comes to replace the E65 (kind of logically) and looks pretty nice. Its specs are not confirmed yet but they should include both GSM and UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, Symbian S60 3rd Edition, a 240 x 320 pixel screen with 16M colors, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, expandable memory and so on.

An exact date for the official announcement of Nokia E71 and E66 is not known, but most probably, both smartphones will be presented and launched at the same time. Maybe even by the end of May. We'll see.
