Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, one of the most popular mobile phones that the Finnish handset maker launched on the market until now, is reportedly getting ready to see a new firmware update in the near future. According to the news, the purpose of the upcoming software version would be to make the device include about the same features as the recently unveiled 5530 XM does.

It seems that the rumored new software version might come towards users with camera improvements, response time, frequent crash fixes and others. Some of the most interesting features that were unveiled include an enhanced homescreen and kinetic scrolling, which should look great on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and should also appeal a lot to users.

The tidbits of info on the expected firmware update for Nokia’s first S60 5th Edition phone come from a dailymobile forum member who claims to have learned them from the guys over at Nokia Malaysia in a meeting to preview the 5530 XpressMusic. The Nokia product manager has reportedly confirmed the upcoming software version and the improvements that it should include.

“The purpose of the meet and greet session was actually to get feedback from Nokia 5800 users. Kind of like a focus group. There were about 10+ of us there during the event and we expressed all our unhappiness about the phone. So here is what I got. Apparently Nokia is aware of the new firmware update we are looking for. So v31 (or whatever it is going to be called) is confirmed coming. Right now they are in the process of testing the enhanced homescreen and kinetic scrolling on the Nokia 5800 amongst other things like camera improvements, response time, frequent crash, etc,” J-Slade states in the forum post.

In case Nokia will include these features in the update, users of a 5800 XpressMusic will be able to enjoy the same capabilities as those already present in the Nokia N97 or in the 5530 XpressMusic. Hopefully this will prove true, so stay tuned to learn what other improvements the upcoming firmware updates for the 5800 XpressMusic will deliver.

I really am looking forward to this update as a proud owner of 5800 ;) The phone is pretty great, but the camera software really needs a lot of improvements that hopefully will be included in the new update.
The new Home screen that should support Landscape mode, widgets and more stuff in the "quick launch" bar is going to be one really great step forward and making the phone even more easy to use.
The kinetic scrolling and improved menu speed are going to be really great improvements along with the promise of not so frequent crashes.
Other thing that Nokia really needs to fix is the slow GPS response in some devices. It has proven to be a software issue and hopefully will be resolved with the new firmware.
Nokia is the best phone maker and 5800 even though is the first S60v5 phone was pretty good from the start and is becoming better and better with every new update ;)

Oh and one thing I forgot - they should make the Help menu working again, cause it stopped working after updating to firmware v21

hi
i purchased last week this phone (5800) and has a very bad camera, i could not believe that such great smart phone comes with such bad camera. do you think i need to return it? or to wait till we got the software? can this software solve the problem of the camera ?????

The camera problem is nearly 100% confirmed to be a software issue and we really hope to be resolved with this software update. The hardware is used in many other Nokia phones, but they don't have such problems so that's another proof the problem is in the stupid soft.
Just wait some more time ;) The phone is really wroth it

Please somebody tell me wheather the new firmware is going to come. And what is the status from the Nokia, are they still preparing the firmware or would they not release. I am waitinig for that firmware to be updated on my 5800. Without that the camera is bad. And touch feel is also not so good. Pleaes somebody take this to nokia and get this done. There is a petition goingaround, I have also signed that.(PetitionOnline). If required we will mail the link to nokia. There are 7000 members signed the petition.
