A new version of the Nokia 3D World Gaze mobile application is now available for download for all devices running under Symbian^3 or newer flavors of the mobile platform. The new application release brings along a wide range of features and enhancements, the release notes show.

Among them, we can count pinch zooming and a new Settings panel, along with improved performance and stability, a new icon for the application so that it comes in line with the new Symbian Anna OS flavor, and various other enhancements and new options.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Nokia 3D World Gaze application was designed so as to offer users a new view of the world, through enabling them “see” through the surface of the Earth.

The application brings a brand new way of looking at the world on mobile phones, with a variety of geographical features, including geotagged media, day and night regions, the location of the Sun, and more.

The mobile software was made available for download only several weeks ago, but the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs already came up with enhancements aimed at improving the experience users receive from it.

The changelog for the new application release includes:

- Added pinch zooming and inertia scrolling for the globe view. - A loading spinner is shown on the left when the app is loading the initial content set after launching. The content toolbar buttons appear after the content has finished loading. Previously there was no indication of when data was being loaded - Added a new Settings panel that can be accessed by swiping inward on the left edge (view slides to the right). - Option for using miles for distances instead of kilometers (Settings panel). - Option for showing the amount of transferred data on-screen (Settings panel). - Previewer: items without a title will now correctly show author information. - Previewer: for items in the U.S., detailed location info is looked up using Geonames (state, street address). (Note: the Geonames.org web service may be offline intermittently.) - The label for the nearest city is now always visible, even in the bird view and when other labels are hidden. - Improved performance and stability of server backend and set up a backup server. The app will automatically try the backup server in case the main one cannot be reached or suddenly becomes unavailable. - New icon for the app in line with the overall Symbian Anna theme.

The application weighs in at around 2MB, yet it will download a series of Qt libraries that will increase the amount of data to around 10MB. While in use, the application will download more data. Approximately 1-3 MBs of data will be transferred per 10 minutes of use, the development team notes.

To learn more on the amount of data the application downloads, users will have to head to Menu → About 3D World Gaze.

The new flavor of the mobile application is available for download from Softpedia as well, via this link.
