XCOM: Enemy Unknown is designed for video game consoles as well as for the PC and the development team is trying to assure the fan base that the split between the two types of gaming devices will affect the quality of the game.

Speaking to PC Gamer Jake Solomon, who is the lead designer working on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, has stated, “There’s no reason to pull any punches with any platform, because, when it comes to input, XCOM is not particularly complicated. I don’t feel the need to streamline any aspects of gameplay because the player’s interaction with the game experience is still simple.”

Jake Solomon also talked about how he works with Sid Meier, the legendary designer that is leading Firaxis, adding, “He and I interact on an almost daily basis. I say ‘Look, I have this problem. What do you think I should do?’ and he’s a very gifted designer. He can look at a situation and he can say ‘have you tried this?’ And I’ll be like, ‘oh, that’s really good’.”

The developer says that the team has been working together so much lately on XCOM: Enemy Unknown that he actually heard Sid Meier’s voice when thinking about video game development.

The Firaxis-made XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set to take the core concepts of the series and update them for the modern age and the modern gamer.

The core tactical gaming elements of XCOM will remain, as will the overall strategic layer that allows players to research new technology, deal with the nations that provide funding and recruit the men that will lead the fight against the aliens.

The developers have promised an improved User Interface for the PC version of the game, as well as more customization options.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 during the fall of this year.
