PS2 dominating the market

Looks like there will be enough PS3s to go around, quite soon some might say. Apparently, Sony has managed to resolve manufacturing issues and they are still on track to deliver one million PS3s by the end of the year.

This was confirmed by communication boss David Karraker, who also reveals that his company plans to assure a steady stream of systems for North American consumers by the end of the year. These comments come after a research was done by NPD in which they show that 197,000 PS3 units were sold during November, and given the fact that the console sold out, this means that the number of units available on the launch day was less than what Sony Computer Entertainment promised.

According to gamesindustry.biz, the NPD report also shows that 746,000 Nintendo Wii consoles were sold during the same period, and the Xbox 360 sold 511,000 units. If we were to talk only about next-gen consoles, Xbox 360 would come out on top. But having an overall look at the consoles market, next-gen or not, we would see that PS2 still rules, as it managed to sell 664,000 units.

As regarding handheld consoles, things are very clear, with Nintendo leading the pack with their DS. It managed to sell 918,000 units in comparison with its main rival, the PSO console that sold only 412,000 units. The Game Boy Advance is still doing fine in sales, with 641,000 units sold.
