Video game developers Infinity Ward have announced that the wildly popular Commando perk that was offered in Modern Warfare 2 will no longer be available in the next version of Call of Duty, which is set to be launched during the fall.

The change has been confirmed by Robert Bowling, who is the creative strategist working at the company and one of the main source of new information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Answering a question from a fan about how the multiplayer side of the game will be redesigned, he tweeted “Its been balanced, plus Commando is no longer in the game. Beyond that, you'll have to wait and see.”

It seems that the entire melee section of multiplayer battles will be changed to make it easier for players of all skill sets to be competitive.

Commando was important because it allowed for melee attacks over a bigger range in its normal version and had a Pro variant that eliminated all fall damage, which could be invaluable for some players on a number of popular multiplayer maps.

It seems that the big problem with Commando was the extended melee range and it's unclear whether another perk will be introduced to take over the fall damage negation.

Ever since the first Modern Warfare the multiplayer experience has been one of the main selling points for the series and players have always expected to see significant improvements from one installment of the first-person shooter to another.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will keep all the progression elements and the good map design that made the series one of the most played multiplayer titles in the world and will launch with the Elite service, which will enable willing players to enhance their overall experience.

The game is set to be launched on the PC and home consoles on November 8.
