Nintendo has announced that its 3DS handheld is now enabled to receive 3D video content, a service that has been promised since launch, and that to celebrate the launch of the new feature all users will be able to see a new music video from OK Go on July 27, with the three-dimensional version available exclusively on the Nintendo device.

Nintendo is also saying that in the coming weeks the new 3D video service will get content from Jason DeRulo, Foster the People, CollegeHumor and the Blue Man Group as well.

Those who use it will also be able to get access to exclusive 3D trailers for upcoming blockbuster movies, animation coming from independent studios, action videos and some sports-based content.

Tony Elison, who is a senior director and the general manager of Network Business at Nintendo of America, has stated, “Nintendo 3DS is a unique platform for creativity. OK Go and all our partners are helping us make Nintendo Video a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience.”

In order to get access to the Video feature, those who own a Nintendo 3DS need to first connect to a broadband Internet connection and then log into their eShop account in order to download the Nintendo Video application.

From then on, when the handheld is in range of a wireless hotspot with the SpotPass feature enabled, the Video service will be updated with new content, even if the 3DS is in Sleep Mode.

Delivering three-dimensional experiences is the big selling point for the Nintendo 3DS handheld and the Japanese company is making sure that as much content as possible is available for it to make it more attractive for buyers.

The 3DS launched earlier in the year and it performed very well for the first few weeks on sale, but since then the figures are showing a significant slowdown.

Delivering more ways to use the 3D features of the platform might boost sales in the long term.
