14 DAY TRIAL // It’s only been several hours since we reported that Nintendo might have silently discontinued the original 3DS and now it looks like the company is bringing a special version to European customers.
The new Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Edition is available for purchase in Europe for £179.99 / €199.99, though it hasn’t been officially announced yet.
This is why getting one will be a bit tricky, as Nintendo only allows selected Club Nintendo members to purchase a 3DS Ambassador Edition for the prices mentioned earlier.
The special edition includes the following items in the package: a new Nintendo 3DS with an exclusive back cover plate, an exclusive face cover plate, a new 3DS stylus, a 4GB microSDHC card, a set of AR cards, a Quick-Start Guide, a set of back and front Super Msash Bros. cover plates and a charging cradle.
It’s also worth mentioning that the New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Edition is offered by email invitation to selected Club Nintendo members in Europe who meet certain criteria.
The scheme is available while stocks last
In a statement sent to Eurogamer, Nintendo says that it’s “unable to disclose such business information, however we would like to reassure you that we are continually looking at different promotional offerings we can bring to consumers at various times throughout the year.”
That being said, it’s unclear whether or not this offer will eventually be available to anyone wanting to purchase a Nintendo 3DS. We don’t even know if Nintendo will come out with an official statement regarding the availability of this New 3DS Ambassador Edition bundle.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how fast these special edition 3DS consoles will appear on eBay seeing they are only available in limited stock to select few.
Update 6/1/15, 12:52 GMT: Well, now that didn't take too long. It's been around 2 hours since Nintendo made the New 3DS Ambassador Edition bundle available to select Club Nintendo members in Europe, and the console is already up for sale on eBay.
If you can afford it, you can grab one for £300, which is not even double the suggested retail price announced by Nintendo (£179.99).
