The upcoming Ninja Gaiden 3 video game from Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei won't follow the same violent recipe as previous iterations in the series, as the developer admitted that players won't be able to decapitate their enemies or remove any of their limbs.

The Ninja Gaiden series has always relied on its hard as nails difficulty as well as on the vast amounts of blood and chopped limbs that resulted from the intense combat seen in the last couple of games.

Now, with Ninja Gaiden 3, things are going into another direction, as Team Ninja is under a new management and has a new mission: to show a more realistic side to the adventures of Ninja Gaiden protagonist Ryu Hayabusa.

We've heard quite a lot about the changes in the game up until now, but only during Gamescom 2011 last week did an interesting and rather worrying factoid emerge, via IGN.

The website cites a developer at Team Ninja who says that limb dismemberment, whether they're arms, legs or heads, isn't going to be featured in the new game.

"We don't think people want to see that anymore," the Team Ninja developer revealed. "They've already seen it."

Ninja Gaiden 3 wants to deliver a more realistic experience, showcasing just how Ryu is killing his enemies with his variety of weapons. While dismemberment isn't all that probable in real life, it's still a result from actual sword combat, so Team Ninja's motive isn't all that great.

In previous games, like Ninja Gaiden 2, dismemberment happened almost all the time, as enemies could even come after you with just one leg or arm and launch vicious attacks.

Unfortunately, it seems that this won't happen with the new game. Thankfully, at least from the screenshots released up until now for Ninja Gaiden 3, there are still copious amounts of blood present.

What do you think about this curious decision? Is dismemberment that important for the franchise or will its disappearance drive people away from the hack and slash game? Share your thoughts below.
