The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards took place last night and, as promised, the ceremony included plenty of surprises from movies, from a sneak peek at the upcoming Michael Jackson docu-film “This Is It” to the highly anticipated, new, extended trailer for “New Moon,” the second installment in the “Twilight Saga,” scheduled for theatrical release in November this year.

As Summit Entertainment, the movie studio behind the Twilight phenomenon, promised a while back and MTV confirmed, the new trailer would offer a better look at the much-hyped production, as compared with the first teaser and the subsequent “Meet Jacob Black” trailer. Summit more than delivered on that promise, including in the new release plenty of scenes in Italy, more of Bella trying to cope with the physical pain Edward’s departure caused and the irrational actions she took just so that she could see his face again, and action scenes galore.

As MTV also informs, the minute the screening of the new trailer was over, Twilighters took to the Internet to express their opinion, which is almost the same thing as saying to voice their enthusiasm. To say that fans were happy with the release is clearly an understatement, MTV says, and the thousands of comments on various forums and e-zines (from MTV to fansites) are proof of that. Some overzealous fans even vouched they were so hyped after seeing the trailer they could see no possible way they would make it alive until November, since the anticipation would eventually be the end of them.

There were some, though, who did have something bad to say: despite promises from Summit and director Chris Weitz, along with the entire cast, of course, the trailer showed clear signs that the film would include scenes that Stephenie Meyer did not write in the book. This could be a good thing, some fans believe, in that the movies will now be able to stand apart from the books as a franchise of its own. On the other hand, it could also be a bad thing, since it would change the story by straying from it, others say.

“Perhaps the only negative in the eyes of the fans was all the footage that Twilighters saw but couldn’t remember reading in Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel. ‘Wtf was the new moon trailer about,’ asked @jayceekah. ‘Half that stuff doesnt [sic] even happen, those sneaky basterds [sic].’ @nikki_nick00 agreed: ‘New Moon rocks!!!!!!!!!! But they totally added a lot of scenes that I dont [sic] remember reading.’” MTV says of fans’ reaction to the “New Moon” trailer on Twitter.
