A new trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s latest drama, “Southpaw,” has been released. It’s shorter than the first official preview and mostly plays out like a shorter version of the same, but it’s more touching because it places the focus on the importance of family.

“Southpaw” is the story of a boxing champ (Jake Gyllenhaal) who loses everything in life, both professionally and personally, and fights to get at least some of it back. The turning point is the death of his wife, played by Rachel McAdams, in a brawl between himself and another boxer.

The new trailer comes with a brand new poster as well, which you can see attached to this blog post. It too puts the spotlight on the importance of family by including McAdams with Gyllenhaal. Previous materials had only focused on Gyllenhaal in character in the ring.

“Southpaw” is based on a script by Kurt Sutter (whose previous hit was the FX series “Sons of Anarchy”), and also stars Forest Whitaker, 50 Cent, Rita Ora, Naomie Harris and Oona Laurence. Eminem was at one point attached to star as lead, but he only contributes to the OST, with the track “Phenomenal,” a sample of which you can hear in the new trailer.

If you like what you see, keep an eye out for “Southpaw” starting July 24.
