Axis Communications, one of the world's best-known and largest suppliers of surveillance solutions, has just released a couple of interesting new additions to its line of dome network cameras, namely the AXIS P5522/-E models.

So, what we're basically talking about here are a couple of new pan/tilt/zoom dome surveillance cameras that are capable of providing 360-degree coverage of a wide area, while also being capable of zooming-in towards certain subjects or items, via the built-in 18x optical zoom system.

The features provided by the two cameras are fairly similar, the main difference between the two being the specific environment they target, since the basic P5522 is designed for indoor use, while the P5522-E is outdoor ready (meaning that, while the first model provides protection against dust and dripping water, the second will also be able to resist the action of rain, snow, sun an dust).

According to the manufacturer, its two new network cameras support video resolutions up to 720x480 in 60 Hz, 720x576 in 50 Hz and offer both day and night functionality, with the help of the 128x wide dynamic range, capable of delivering enhanced image quality in both light and dark conditions.

Moreover, they're capable of broadcasting multiple video streams in H.264 and/or Motion JPEG, and users can easily set the frame rates and resolutions that best suit their needs, but also come equipped with SD/SDHC memory card slots, for local storage purposes.

It's also interesting to note that the new cameras from Axis are powered using High Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3at), which means only one cable is required for power, video and PTZ controls.

According to AXIS, their P5522/-E cameras will be available to order in April 2011, but their price points won't be particularly affordable, the P5522 having a SRP of $1,499, while the AXIS P5522-E is priced at around $1,899.
