After the success of “This Is It,” made of the hundreds of hours of footage shot during rehearsals for the tour of the same name that never took place, a new film with Michael Jackson is in the making.

“This Is It” was a smashing hit so interest is high to replicate that by releasing new, never before seen footage. This would also be from rehearsals, albeit from an older tour, TMZ says. According to the celebrity gossip website and paparazzi agency, a former associate of the late King of Pop is shopping footage from a tour in 1981, which will hopefully be turned into film.

Until now, nothing has been set in stone but producer and former MJ aide Ron Newt promises interest is very high in making this happen, which means the finished product might actually drop very soon.

“The man behind the deal is Ron Newt – who claims he was so close with Michael, that the singer gave him special behind-the-scenes footage from Jackson’s 1981 Triumph Tour,” TMZ says of how Newt got access to the footage.

“Newt tells TMZ he’s put together a 64-minute feature film from his footage... which includes several candid moments involving MJ and his brothers. Michael can also be seen dancing, singing and directing the stage production,” the same media outlet informs.

If a deal gets signed, Newt will undoubtedly make a very good buck off it, since, by the looks of things, the Michael Jackson estate won’t see a penny since Michael himself gave Newt the footage.

“Newt tells us he’s already getting offers from several interested parties – with proposals reaching into seven figures,” TMZ mentions.

Seeing this kind of interest in all things Michael Jackson doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially since sales of all his releases literally exploded after his tragic and sudden death in the summer of 2009.

Just yesterday, for instance, we were telling you that 100,000 CNN readers voted for the number one global music icon in the history of music – and it was Michael Jackson who was awarded this impressive title.
