Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is gearing up for the launch of a successor for the HTC Incredible, the popular smartphone that landed on its airwaves about a year ago, and which is no longer available for purchase on Big Red's website, namely the HTC Incredible 2. The handset has made it to the headlines quite a few times before, and emerged once again in a new series of photos, this time of higher quality, since they are said to be press-photos of the device.

Unfortunately, Verizon did not unveil specific info on its plans for this device as of yet, and nothing is known at the moment on when would the new HTC Incredible 2 become available for purchase.

However, various rumors on the possible landing of this device did emerge before, pointing at a late April availability, though it remains to be seen whether they would pan out or not.

In the meantime, we should have a look at the HTC Incredible 2 itself, which seems to come to the market with about the same looks as the HTC Incredible S, but which should pack various hardware changes inside.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the HTC Incredible S was announced in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with a 4-inch touchscreen, 1GHz application processor, 8-megapixel photo snapper, and the like.

The handset already landed on shelves in various markets around the world, and should land at Verizon Wireless with support for the carrier's CDMA network, though without LTE radios inside.

The press photos available with the device courtesy of Pocketnow show it with the popular DROID red eye on the front, which suggests that Verizon might add it to its already popular DROID lineup.

If so, we should expect for the device to be released under the name of DROID Incredible 2, though confirmation on this is still unavailable.

However, based on the flurry of new info and photos that emerged lately with the new device, we should expect for the formal announcement on its arrival to emerge soon, so stay tuned for more.
