Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless was rumored a while ago to plan launching on its airwaves a new Android-based mobile phone, one that would join the popular DROID family of devices, namely the DROID 2 World Edition, and a few more details on this have just emerged.

Moreover, in addition to some new specs rumored for the new mobile phone, we can have a look at what allegedly would be the second DROID 2 smartphone on Verizon's network.

According to the latest reports on the matter, the new mobile phone should pack an application processor that could run at up to 1200 MHz, delivering some pretty impressive performance levels.

The Quadrant scores for the Droid 2 World Edition that emerged over at Droid-Life show that the new device can deliver increased performance when compared to other handsets out there.

However, it's uncertain whether the CPU is the same Texas Instruments OMAP3620 processor that was present in the original DROID 2, which was clocked at 1Ghz, though chances are that it is, some suggest.

If so, this means that Motorola managed to squeeze some 200 MHz higher than what the currently shipping chip delivers, and that the phone's users should enjoy some welcomed added performance.

Unfortunately, no info on when the new device would arrive at Big Red emerged for the time being.

Some of the previous rumors on it suggested that September would be the lucky time frame for enthusiasts, though they might not pan out, especially with the end of the month so close.

Until more on this is made available we should have a look at the photos with DROID 2 World Edition that were published over at Droid-Life, which show the handset in a white casing, and a pretty appealing one, we must admit.

Of course, the new mobile phone looks almost identical with the original DROID 2 on the outside, but the actual goodies are on the inside, it appears.
