A Bungie representative has confirmed that the developer, best known for working on the wildly successful Halo franchise with Microsoft, is now developing a new game engine from scrap with the aim to use it to power the new video game franchise that it will be developing for publisher Activision Blizzard during the next ten years.

Brian Jarrard, who is the communications manager for Bungie, has told Develop during a wide ranging interview that, “I think it goes hand-in-hand with our independent spirit. Just like we don't want to develop a game off someone else's IP, we want to push our own technology in the same way. That's going to be our position for the foreseeable future.”

Jarrard then confirmed that the company was actively working on new tech, saying, “Yeah, actually in development, so I would say it's in a stage where, technically we're still at the end of a pre-production mode.”

The communications manager also said that the full power of Bungie is now shifting to the new Activision collaboration but the developer has previously confirmed that it is also committed to putting out new content for Halo: Reach, primarily maps to be used in the multiplayer game modes.

The entire gaming world has shocked when Bungie announced that it would be working with Activision for a period of ten years and that it would be creating a new video game universe to be used for its titles.

Bungie has been very much tight lipped about this new project, now even revealing the genre of the game it is making.

Most gamers know Bungie thanks to the popularity of Halo and the Master Chief character but the company has also developed a ground breaking strategy series in the Myth video games, which focused on the tactical manipulation of units as opposed to the resource gathering that was a staple of real time strategy at that time.
