The official update still not released

BlackBerry Storm 9500 users can now enjoy yet another firmware update that leaked into the wild for their handsets, namely the version 4.7.0.131. The new firmware release is not official yet, but it seems that some more improvements over previous versions are arriving along with it for those who are willing to give it a try.

Among the new features brought by the release we can count a fix to a problem with washed-out colors, as well as the leveraged performance of the accelerometer, which means that those installing it will find it fast and sensitive.

Given the fact that this is just an unofficial release of the software for the device, those who do not know for sure what they are up against should not try installing it, for it might damage the handset. Those who will go with the download should take all the necessary precautions before the installation, so as to make sure they won't lose any valuable data stored on the phone.

Some reports from those who already installed the new OS 4.7.0.131 for the BlackBerry Storm 9500 state that the handset feels somehow different, just the way it did with other iterations of the platform, both official and unofficial. But the update that is meant to bring QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode to other BlackBerry Storm users hasn't been released just yet, at least not officially.

Verizon, the carrier expected to send that OTA firmware upgrade to its users (OS version 4.7.0.113 for 9530 that is) has announced that it will make the move in a matter of weeks, so it should still come in the near future. In the meantime, Canadian carrier Bell already released an official upgrade for its BlackBerry Storm 9530 users, namely OS 4.7.0.122, and it seems that some Big Red customers downloaded and installed it on their devices, and it works just fine. In case you'd like to do the same, remember that it is quite risky.
