You might remember that the ASUS MeMO Pad 10 is one of the company’s budget oriented tablets. The current version of the device ME102A is up for grabs with a price below $200 / €155.

But it appears ASUS might be looking to update this model with a new processor that should supposedly improve things in the performance department (as seen at Comparatif-Tablette).

What does the current version bring to the table?

The ME102A arrives with a 10.1-inch WXGA LED backlit IPS panel boasting the customary 1280 x 800 pixel res.

Power is provided by a quad-core Rockchip RK3188 processor clocked at 1.6GHz and working side by side with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The tablet had 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 1 micro USB 2.0, micro SD card reader and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as default operating system.

Sadly, for the time being ASUS hasn’t rolled out the Android 4.4 KitKat update, so this should be an aspect to be kept in mind when considering whether to purchase the tab or not.

What will the new version bring about?

The new model goes by the ME103K moniker and already showed up with several online retailers in Europe.

It seems that ASUS hasn’t changed much in terms of visuals, as the new model looks similar to the older. However, some changes in the hardware and software department have been applied.

For starters, the tab does no longer take advantage of a Rockchip, as ASUS has replaced it with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.

As for soft, ASUS will ship out the tablet with Android 4.4 KitKat, so you’re off the hook with updates for now.

Apart from these two major changes, the new MeMO Pad retains the same 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

For the time being, we don’t have a specific price tag to share with you, but we ca tell you the new MeMO Pad 10 is expected to be sold around the same price as the original (so 200 bucks or so).

However, if you prefer smaller tablets, you should know ASUS has recently launched a new MeMO Pad 7 version, which will be offered with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and an Intel Moorefield processor fitted with 2GB of Ram and 16GB/32GB of internal storage.

The tablet also runs Android 4.4 KitKat and can be yours for €199 / $199 in black, red or rose champagne.
