A mix of strategy and role playing

NeocoreGames showed up on my gaming radar back in early 2008, when they released Crusaders: Thy Kingdom Come, which I have reviewed. The developer is based in Hungary and is now working on a new game, called King Arthur, set to be a deeper mix of real time strategy and role playing taking place in the mythical land of Britannia just as a young man called Arthur manages to extract Excalibur from the stone.

The ideas already present in Crusaders: Thy Kingdom Come will be expanded in the new title. Battles will be fought in real time and after each battle, heroes will be given experience points and assigned items, both regular and magical.

The map of the game will probably look pretty much like that of Medieval 2: Total War, with a turn based system where each season takes up one turn. Heroes will be moved around the map and can undertake one action during each turn.

The protagonists of King Arthur will be the Knights of the Round Table, who will act like the heroes of a traditional role playing game. They will travel the campaign map, discover new territories and they will gain levels and abilities as they fight enemies. They can get quests related to points of interest in each province and each action that the Knights of the Round Table take can influence their morality.

The world will be one filled with magic. Monsters will be encountered deep in the forests and the ancient circles of the druids will be important to the player. Even the invading Saxons are interested in magical artifacts, which can change the fate of the battle. In the north of Britannia, the Witch Queen of Orkney is also gathering an army of savage tribes to invade the lands of Arthur.
