14 DAY TRIAL // The dedicated team of developers behind NeoOffice have announced two new updates for users of their open-source productivity suite for Mac OS X.
According to a forum post signed Patrick, Fran, Ed, and Tim of the NeoOffice team, the latest patches focus on further optimizing the suite for the upcoming Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
They note that after releasing NeoOffice 3.2 Beta last week, the crew has been hard at work testing the code against “the most recent Mac OS X 10.7 Lion release available from Apple”.
Last time we checked, Apple had handed developers a single Preview build of the software, therefore mentioning the February release as the most recent makes little sense.
Whether or not Apple has seeded a new Lion build internally, the NeoOffice team continues with their post saying they've made some changes to the NeoOffice code that should make the suite’s installation process smoother for new users.
The group admits that NeoOffice 3.2 Beta already installs and runs well on Lion.
Specifically, the team launched NeoOffice 3.2 Patch 1 to fix 2 hanging bugs reported by their donors.
These fixes, along with other changes, have also made it in NeoOffice 3.1.2 Patch 6, the branch targeting a wider population (branch 3.2 being specifically aimed at generous donors).
“We have also backported these Lion changes and bug fixes in NeoOffice 3.1.2 Patch 6,” they confirm.
According to Patrick, Fran, Ed, and Tim, both patches include the following changes and bug fixes, all of which target Lion compatibility:
- When NeoOffice is first run on a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion machine that does not have Java installed, the dialog that appears now reads "To open NeoOffice..." instead of "To open java...". Also, after installing the Java system update from this dialog, NeoOffice will automatically relaunch.
- On Mac OS X 10.6 and higher, Apple's Image Capture dialog would cause NeoOffice to hang if that dialog's red close button was pressed. We found a way to disabled the red close button in that dialog to prevent this hanging bug from occurring.
- Dragging the icon in a NeoOffice document's titlebar into the same or another NeoOffice document would cause NeoOffice to hang. This hanging bug has been fixed.
