NAVIGON AG has updated its entire range of MobileNavigator apps to include a Reality Scanner feature that uses augmented reality to help find points of interest close-by. Version 1.8 also includes safety camera alerts as an In App Purchase, as well as a new NAVTEQ map, and an at-a-glance traffic gage.

MobileNavigator turns 3G-capable iOS devices into comprehensive navigation systems.

It is considered to be the best solution of its kind, and thanks to version 1.8, no one can dispute that.

According to its makers, the new Reality Scanner provides a quick way to identify destinations close-by, with users simply pointing the iPhone in any direction from where they are to see points of interest icons instantly appear directly onto a live camera view.

This method precisely indicates the position of the location, Navigon said.

According to the developers, “Pedestrians won't miss a beat while they are on foot, in a couple of taps destinations such as restaurants, bars, hotels, and more are at their fingertips.”

A five-dollar in-app purchase, the Safety Cameras alert targets drivers. It warns of upcoming static speed and red light cameras, helping avoid costly tickets, Navigon said.

"In its eighth version, MobileNavigator delivered over 30 new features since our launch almost two years ago, helping drivers navigate stress-free through even some of the most challenging situations on the road," said Gerhard Mayr, vice-president worldwide mobile phone business, NAVIGON.

"MobileNavigator not only provides accurate directions but acts as a travel assistant with many industry first features,” Mayr added.

“The new Reality Scanner function provides an innovative way of displaying points of interest close-by. Instead of showing them on the map, the feature projects them onto a real-time camera view."

Navigon also announced that MobileNavigator apps and in-app purchase prices have been reduced by up to $15. The offer stands until April 28.
