Yesterday afternoon, Apple released the NVIDIA Graphics Update 2009, a software update that should improve cursor movement when using Apple's $99 Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter with the late 2008 MacBook models. The Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter lets users connect the 30-inch Apple Cinema Display HD to a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air with a Mini DisplayPort.

Mostly aimed at the new generation of MacBook Air, MacBook, and MacBook Pro, the update should also improve playback of HD video running on systems equipped with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT or GeForce 9600M GT graphics. While it isn't very clear exactly which systems the update applies to, the GeForce 7300 GT is available with 24-inch iMacs and as a PCI-x graphics card available for the original Mac Pro models, Macworld says. Via the Support section of its web site, Apple describes the update as follows.

About NVIDIA Graphics Update 2009

This update improves cursor movement when using the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter with the Mini DisplayPort enabled MacBook Air, MacBook and MacBook Pro.

Additional information comes from Macnn who points out to the reason Apple had for releasing the update. According to the site, Apple was faced with complaints from users who noticed video distortion when using the DisplayPort adapter with various Dell displays, and even with Apple's own 30-inch Cinema Display.
