Yesterday was a productive day for Verizon Wireless, as the second largest US mobile carrier announced the availability of MySpace and other popular mobile websites on its subscribers' mobile phones. All Verizon users who own Mobile Web 2.0 enabled handsets can, from now on, enjoy more entertainment while on the go.

MySpace, the hugely popular social networking website, will be from now on accessible in a mobile version specially designed for the (usually) small displays that handsets have. Verizon's subscribers will be able to edit profiles, add friends, comment, send and receive messages, all directly from their handsets.

"Millions of MySpace users have Verizon Wireless phones, and starting today we're giving them fast and easy access to our mobile site, at no additional charge," declared in a press release Brandon Lucas, senior director of mobile business development for MySpace. "Today's announcement brings us a step closer to fulfilling our vision that every user has access to MySpace, anytime, anywhere."

Together with MySpace, Verizon also provides access for the mobile websites of MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, Nickelodeon and CMT.

The mobile websites of MTV and VH1 will bring users the latest news, music, celebrities photos, biographies and much more, while CMT's website will keep country music fans updated on their favorite music gender.

Comedy Central for Verizon's phones comes with "Joke of the Day", a section dedicated to South Park, plus a "What's Your Sign" horoscope. The children-oriented Nickelodeon website is also available for Verizon's subscribers, offering fun games, personality quizzes, flipbooks, pictures and so on.

All the above mentioned mobile websites are included in the V CAST Vpak, which comes for a fee of $15 per month. Users who don't want to subscribe for the V CAST Vpak can also access MySpace, MTV, Comedy Central and the other sites, for $1.99 per megabyte, if they have a Verizon Nationwide Plan.
