Report claims Adele is “devastated” after being told to lose weight for US tour

British singing sensation Adele was recently forced to call off her North American tour because of issues with her voice. A new report suggests that this wasn’t the real reason: Adele panicked when a music executive told her she needed to lose weight for it.

With a voice that can move even rocks to tears, Adele has been hailed by industry people as the kind of artist that can save the music industry, because she takes the focus off of good looks and places it back where it should be, on the quality of music.

At the same time, she’s repeatedly said that she wasn’t comfortable with the level of fame she attained, but insisted she would never change because of it.

The latest print issue of Star magazine (story via here) claims that Adele’s self-confidence took a serious hit when she arrived in LA in preparation for the US tour – and was told from the start she’d need to lose weight to stand on a stage in front of audiences.

“Shortly after she landed in LA in early May, an executive for her label told her she needs to lose weight. And that really devastated her,” an unnamed source says for the publication.

Though she poses like a very confident woman, performing at large venues is still very intimidating for Adele, especially since she has certain body image issues she’s not yet worked through.

Star claims she’s been telling friends that, at times, she would get so nervous on stage that “her throat would literally close up” – if true, one can only imagine the kind of nerves she got when she was told she wasn’t thin enough to be on that stage in the first place.

“The pressure on Adele… has been immense. She was sitting in her hotel room in Santa Monica on her own, crying,” another source says.

“Adele sees herself as just a normal girl from London, and she felt bullied and like a fish out of water in LA. She just wanted to go home,” says yet another insider familiar with the situation.

“Adele is not at all interested in the commercial, moneymaking side of the business,” adds the spy.
