The true successor the Motorola XOOM tablet, the XOOM 2 has just been introduced in Singapore. The handset maker usually launches both XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition at the same time, but for some reason it only announced the former’s availability in Singapore.

According to Motorola, the XOOM 2 is now available for purchase at major retailers across the country for a recommended retail price of 978 SGD (760 USD or 595 EUR).

Those unfamiliar with the slate should know that that Motorola XOOM 2 is delivered with both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, which makes it more reliable.

[ADMARK=]Although the tablet runs Google’s Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system, it is expected to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime later this year. Motorola already confirmed plans to deploy Android 4.0 to Motorola RAZR and XOOM, as well as other unspecified high-end devices.

Motorola XOOM 2 has a brilliant 10.1-inch capacitive widescreen display with HD (800 x 1280 pixels) resolution, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Aside from being used as a multimedia device, owners of the tablet can rely on its enterprise features completely. Motorola XOOM 2 is pre-loaded with Business Ready features, such as VPN support and data encryption.

In addition, the new MotoCast app allows users to stream multimedia content and documents from their computers directly onto the tablet. Motorola XOOM 2’s HDMI port allows owners to watch videos on larger HTDV-quality screens.

Singaporeans are enthusiastic adopters of bleeding-edge mobile technologies, so we are very pleased to be bringing them the Motorola XOOM 2, our most innovative tablet to date. This new tablet builds on the success of the original Motorola XOOM, and packs amazing power and capabilities into a body that’s stylish, light and very slim,” said Spiros Nikolakopoulos, vice president and general manager of Motorola Mobility in Asia.
