Motorola India has just announced the availability of its mid-entry Android smartphone Motorola Quench XT5. This is the second 'XT series' handset landing in India, after Motorola Quench XT3 was launched back in August.

Strangely enough, the XT5 hasn't been launched in the US yet, even though the North American market is the main profit source for Motorola's mobile division.

Motorola Quench XT5 is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz processor and runs on Android 2.1 (Eclair) platform, which is less likely to be upgraded any further.

The device comes with a mid-sized 3.2-inch HVGA display with 262K colors support and 320×480 pixels resolution. The handset measures 114.9 x 56.8 x 12.6 mm and weighs 114g (battery included), which puts it in the average size category.

The bar smartphone packs a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and video recording capabilities (320x480@15 fps). The Quench XT5 has 100 MB of internal memory, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Quench XT5 also features Gorilla Glass display, trackball controller, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, as well as MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets.

Other highlights of the phone include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, Stereo FM radio with RDS, GPS with A-GPS support (Google Maps), Digital Compass, DivX/H.264/H.263 player.

“As the Android-powered market in India continues to grow significantly, we remain committed to expand our portfolio of smartphones to deliver wider choices across price segments to the Indian consumer,” said Faisal Siddiqui, country head of India, Motorola Mobility, at the launch event.

Motorola Quench XT5 is available in India for Rs.13,990 (roughly $300) from Aircel.

In addition, customers who purchase the smartphone also get Aircel‘s new prepaid connection plan comprising of 9GB data download free for three months, as well as 150 Aircel to Aircel local minutes.
