14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola announced the affordable MOTOLUXE and DEFY MINI Android smartphones about two weeks ago and stated that they would be available in Europe beginning this spring.
Although the MOTOLUXE and DEFY MINI are already available in China, as Motorola XT615 and DEFY MINI XT320, they will only arrive in the UK in late February or early March.
UK-based retailer Clove has listed both smartphones and is now taking pre-orders. It looks like Motorola MOTOLUXE is priced at £258 (395 USD or 310 EUR), while Motorola DEFY MINI can be purchased for only £175 (270 USD or 210 EUR) outright.
Both affordable smartphone are powered by Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and Moto Switch user interface, which allows users to change between work and personal profiles while on the go.
However, given the higher price, Motorola MOTOLUXE is superior when it comes to hardware. The smartphone is equipped with an 800 MHz processor, while the DEFY MINI features a slightly less powerful 600 MHz CPU.
Furthermore, the MOTOLUXE sports a large 4.0-inch capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 854 pixels resolution, whereas the DEFY MINI comes with a smaller 3.2-inch capacitive display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution.
Another difference between the two Android devices is the rear camera. Motorola MOTOLUXE packs an impressive 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, while the DEFY MINI features a mediocre 3-megapixel photo snapper.
It is also worth mentioning that both smartphones come with VGA front-facing camera for video calls and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
Motorola DEFY MINI is the smallest and newest member of the DEFY family of rugged Android smartphones, so expect integrated Corning Gorilla Glass, as well as dust and water protection from this one.
Other things that both phones have in common include Wi-Fi and HSDPA support, Bluetooth, GPS receiver and Stereo FM radio with RDS.
