Although Motorola stated that the ATRIX would be receiving the Gingerbread update in the future, one of the company officials recently confirmed it and added that the company hopes to deliver the update in the U.S. and U.K. at the same time.

Unfortunately, no release schedule has been disclosed yet, but the fact that the U.S.-based manufacturer is trying to offer European customers the same level of attention as those overseas proves that Motorola is trying to change its image on a not-so-profitable market.

When asked by the guys over at Electricpig, about the company's plans for the ATRIX Gingerbread update, Motorola’s vice president of International Marketing, Andrew Morley, confirmed by saying:

Yes, there are. We haven’t announced timings but we have announced plans for the intentions.”

Furthermore, Morley stated that users on both continents may receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update at the same time, or at least that this is the company's intention.

Motorola is known for putting the North-American market in pole-position when it comes to software updates for its devices.

However, as Motorola ATRIX is already selling in the U.S. for quite a while, it will be interesting to see if the handset maker will be able to deliver the Gingerbread update simultaneously on both continents.

Either way, Motorola ATRIX will have a hard time competing with the upcoming Galaxy S II, as Samsung's flagship smartphone comes with Android 2.3 out-of-the-box.

The fact that UK customers will be able to grab the ATRIX for free upon signing a selected plan may help Motorola in the competition, but we doubt that Galaxy S II won't receive the same treat from the UK carriers.

Motorola ATRIX jumped overseas recently and should be available this week from Orange UK.

In addition, Everything Everywhere and UK Motorola have confirmed that the ATRIX will be available from T-Mobile beginning next month.
