Motion controls are slowly becoming more and more present all around us, and this is especially true in gaming, where Nintendo has paved the way with its Wii console. Now, the Arch rivals of the Japanese company, Microsoft and Sony, are ready to jump in and are already developing their own takes on this technology.

But nothing will stay the same, at least according to famous Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the “father” of hit franchises like Mario or The Legend of Zelda. The executive recently talked about the Wii MotionPlus add-on, which consists of a peripheral that will attach to the end of any regular Wii Remote, and revealed why the company was offering the MotionPlus add-on only as a peripheral, and wouldn't integrate it in a new version of the remote.

“It’s a continuous evolution,” Miyamoto said. “Not all the Wii software requires MotionPlus, so it is appropriate for us to position it as a peripheral. Also, it was not technically feasible for the technology to be realized with such a compact size. The fact we are now being able to sell MotionPlus at this price, at this size, is the result of technological advancements in the field of microelectro-mechanical systems, which took place after Wii launched.”

The famous designer then emphasized the role that Wii Sports Resort would have in bringing the MotionPlus add-on into the homes of many Wii gamers all around the world. Don't forget that it is bundled with the peripheral, which really helps in some of the finer mini-games found in the collection.

Another Nintendo executive, Reggie Fils-Aime, also revealed a few days ago that the company already had plans for the future, meaning that innovation and evolution certainly wouldn't stop at the Japanese corporation.
