Says Naughty Dog man

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was probably the biggest PlayStation 3 exclusive release of 2009 and the game that actually helped the new Slim version of the home gaming console sell a lot of units during the Christmas shopping season and gamers are certainly waiting to hear about how the development team at Naughty Dog plans to approach the third game in the series starring Nathan Drake.

And while also talking about how it plans to optimize the use of the Cell processor, which Sony is so proud of, the people behind the game are also saying that they do not plan to jump on the very popular motion tracking bandwagon.

Evan Wells, who is the co-president of Naughty Dog, clearly stated that “If we were going to make a motion controlled game, we'd want to tackle it from the bottom up and make sure that we were designing the game around the motion control, the way the best Wii games are designed,” adding that the Uncharted series itself was to set in the old way of controlling the characters and would not make a good test subject for the motion revolution.

The Uncharted series is certainly not one that would profit from motion control. Probably initial titles on the PlayStation 3 and on the Xbox 360 will be oriented more towards simple gameplay mechanics easy to simulate and learn while also offering gameplay in discrete chunks.

Both Microsoft and Sony plan to release peripherals that rely on motion for input during 2010. Sony's so-called wand is slated for late spring, while Microsoft is readying Project Natal for the holiday season. At the moment, the only official game announcement that mentions the Sony wand is the Alternative Edition of Resident Evil 5, which is set to arrive on March 9. Ubisoft has also said that it is developing titles for both devices but has not named any names.
