New rumors are coming out pretty much every day about a successor for the Nintendo Wii home console, talking about its features and possible hardware make up, but one of the most important men at the Japanese gaming company is not ready to confirm its existence yet.

As part of an interview with Gameblog, a France-based games-oriented site, Shigeru Miyamoto, who is the leading video game creator at Nintendo, has said, “Yes, I have heard rumors of “Coffee”. At the time I want to say it’s normal. You know Nintendo, like all other manufacturers, our job is to design new machines.”

He added, “We believe it takes 5 years to make the R & D interesting. Afterwards, I admit that there is no smoke without fire. We must realize that we spend our time developing in-house gaming consoles. Some of you will never see. With us, as we do not know exactly where we are going and when we get out our next console, we do not disclose publicly. But we should not believe everything we read.”

Miyamoto seems to be saying that Nintendo is working on a new home console, but he seems to be implying that the company is not ready to talk about it yet.

This could mean that the Wii 2, which has been named Project Cafe but also Stream, is being prepared for a bit of unveiling at the E3 trade show in June, but there's also the possibility that Nintendo will be focusing on the Nintendo 3DS handheld for this year, delivering more titles and the eShop, with the Wii 2 becoming the focus in 2012.

Rumors about the Nintendo Wii 2 suggests that it will be a more powerful machine which will compete directly with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 when it comes out.
