Miley Cyrus refused to pay attention to Sinead O’Connor’s three open letters that got so many people talking this past week because, she said, she was too busy preparing to host the latest edition of Saturday Night Live. You can see below if all this preparation was actually good for anything.
As you probably expected given the kind of media attention Miley’s been getting for her “tasteless” MTV VMAs 2013 performance, which saw her awkwardly twerk all over Robin Thicke and do inappropriate gestures in front of the cameras, this was the butt of all jokes on SNL.
Miley was laughing too, mostly because she was the one who made most of the jokes.
Below is her opening monolog, which she strove to keep brief and funny.
“I can promise you, there will be no twerking tonight. I used to think twerking was cool, but now that white people are doing it I think it’s kinda lame,” Miley said, taking a jab at all those who criticized her for “playing black.”
She also promised there would be no “Wrecking Ball” video parodies, which disappointed Moynihan, who was already riding a wrecking ball, clearly prepared for the skit.
Miley also said she had no intention of apologizing for the aforementioned performance, but did offer apologies to “the creators of the bottom half of shirts” and to the inventor of the giant foam hand.
