Days ago, a video of Miley Cyrus smoking a bong with friends leaked online. In her defense, unnamed sources said it wasn’t weed but salvia – which has sent salvia sales through the roof in the following days, it has emerged.

Possession of salvia in California is not illegal, which would explain why the “friend” rushed to tell the media that Miley was smoking it and not marijuana.

This, it would seem, sent other youngsters on a quest of “I’m having whatever Miley’s having” – at least judging on the boost in sales of salvia, as TMZ reports.

At the same time, while sales are increasing, talk of banning salvia in California is also up for discussion again – also because of the leaked Miley video.

“According to people who deal, legally, in salvia divinorum, sales have increased since Friday – in some cases up to 3 times the usual tally,” TMZ reports.

“TMZ spoke with several head shops in the Los Angeles area and we’re told – not only have sales jumped – but many of the customers specifically asked for ‘the stuff Miley was smoking.’ No... mentioning Miley did not get them a discount,” the e-zine further says.

“While Miley’s experimentation is generating curiosity in the hallucinogen – one smoke shop employee tells us, ‘Salvia is one of those things that you only try once because it is so intense’,” TMZ goes on to say.

The same e-zine also says in a separate post that Miley’s people knew of the leak of the video (which had been made by a friend with a camera phone). They even tried to stop it from getting out but failed.

Apparently, the video somehow ended up on a student’s computer and he sent a message to Cyrus’ rep, asking him if he didn’t want the copy – in exchange for money, of course.

A man in his 40s reportedly visited the student in the San Luis Obispo area, and offered him a new MacBook Pro for his old one, containing the video. Somehow, the student didn’t get paid for the video.

At least another man did the same, which means there were more copies of the same video, TMZ says. In the end, though, Miley’s camp failed at scooping up all of them – and thus the video ended up online.
