Singer/actress does not take her responsibilities lightly

At 16, Miley Cyrus is arguably the most famous teen of her generation, what with the massive coverage she got as Disney’s Hannah Montana and the occasional scandal she found herself involved in. Yet, the young star said, the last thing she would want people to think of her was that she took her responsibilities lightly – as long as they didn’t see her as an idol, as she told in an interview the other day, while she was promoting “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”

According to Fox News, the actress addressed the media during the press conference, with particular emphasis on the “teen idol” label that had been attached to her ever since she emerged on the scene. According to Miley, she would rather be considered a role model than an idol, because the latter implied the fans wanting to emulate her in everything, which might cost them their own dreams and aspirations in the process.

“If you look at me as a role model I agree with it, but if you look at me as an idol, I don’t. An idol for me is someone you want to replicate, you want to be them and I don’t wish that on anyone to lose what they have personally.” Miley shared.

At the same time, she acknowledged the fact that, as a celebrity, her personal life would always be put under the microscope, whether she liked it or not. “What I think people like about me is that I don’t try to change, I haven’t let what I do for a living become my life and completely affect me. What I do in my personal life isn’t necessarily meant to be reported, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be.”

As for the few scandals that marked Miley’s last year or so, the public should not expect perfection of her, or for her to behave in a way that normal teens wouldn’t. Just because she was always in the spotlight, that did not mean that she would not be making mistakes, the star said, adding that she would not trade the mistakes she made thus far for anything in the world, because this was how she learned more about life.

“I’m going to make mistakes and I wouldn’t trade that for anything because I always say the minute you stop making mistakes is the minute you stop learning. I never want to disappoint people and my decisions sometimes not only disappoint other people, but disappoint myself as well. If I don’t then, all of a sudden I am not real and then you really can’t look up to me.” the singer / songwriter / actress further explained.

As noted yesterday, “Hannah Montana: The Movie” will be Miley Cyrus’ last film on the topic, as she herself told the media. The Disney series, though, will continue for a while longer in the same format, hopefully until the fourth season ends.
