Yesterday morning, the 4-year-old daughter of boxing champion Mike Tyson was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive, with the cord from the treadmill wrapped around her neck. A Phoenix police spokesperson has already confirmed the tragic news for celebrity gossip website / paparazzi agency TMZ, as also has the family, several other US media outlets point out.

Just hours before Exodus passed away, Tyson himself issued a press statement on the tragic incident, saying the family was grateful for the prayers and support of the public, but asking for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time. The former champ did not go into details on his daughter’s condition, but police reports of a couple of hours earlier had it that she was “critical” and on life support.

“I was just advised by investigators that Exodus Tyson was pronounced deceased at 11:45 AM today at the hospital. Our sympathies go out to the family.” a spokesperson for the Tyson family says in a statement for TMZ. “There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Exodus. We ask you now to please respect our need at this very difficult time for privacy to grieve and try to help each other heal.” the family also says in a statement released only minutes after the first one.

As we also reported yesterday, the 4-year-girl was playing around the house, presumably in Tyson’s gym, when a cord from a treadmill got entangled around her neck and she was practically chocked until unconscious. Exodus was found by her 7-year-old brother who alerted the mother, Tyson’s girlfriend, who, in turn, called 911. Exodus was rushed to St. Joe’s Hospital, where she was immediately put on life support – but her chances of survival were considered slim even then.

Police are said to be still investigating the case, although the first conclusions would indicate that the incident was completely accidental and the mother was in no way responsible for it. Mike Tyson, his girlfriend and their two children took up residence in Phoenix 5 years ago. The former boxer was not at home when the incident took place, being away to Las Vegas on business. He flew to Phoenix the moment he heard of what had happened home and presumably stood by her bedside until her final hour.
