Just as I was getting ready to shut down the computer and go home for a well deserved resting time, Midway decided not to wait until tomorrow to announce the release date for their first-person shooter, Hour of Victory, and revealed it this evening: the 22nd of June.

Not only that, but they've also told Eurogamer that there's a demo of the game on the way, set to hit Xbox Live next Wednesday.

Hour of Victory is an Xbox 360 exclusive, based on World War II. It is supposed to be one of the most graphically-advanced games for the Xbox 360 (or at least so says Game Informer as I found on Wikipedia). Better than Gears of War and Halo 3? Huh? This we have to see. The game is also going to be featuring a lot of Vehicular combat and destructible environments, while players get to choose from three characters (three men): Covert Operative, a British Commando and a Sharpshooting Army Ranger.

Game modes will include Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch, but there's also going to be a Devastation mode, which Midway described to Eurogamer as "very similar to Halo 2's much loved plant the bomb game," where gamers will have to just blow up their opposing team's bunker and radio station by planting bombs.

"Utilising Epic's Unreal 3 Engine, Hour of Victory has replicated the look and feel of WW2 Europe," a spokesperson from Midway told the site this afternoon. "Coupled with choice of being able to switch between characters such as a commando, sniper or covert op the game will look to significantly add to the WWII first-person shooter genre."

All gamers hope for now is that the game does indeed look better than Halo 3 and Gears of War, not that anyone has anything against those, but there's always room in then hearts of gamers for a better looking game.
