14 DAY TRIAL // Rockstar is aiming to drum up interest in its Midnight Club: Los Angeles racing game by creating a series of competitions with interesting prizes that are grouped under the name of the Official World Championship Series. Amongst the prizes you can get this year, as the competitions will take place all through 2009, Rockstar highlights a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a supply free pizza for one whole year coming from Pizza Hut
To play in the Official World Championship Series, you need to have the game installed on either an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 and to sign up for the Rockstar Social Club, the Rockstar maintained gaming hub that has already been used to track statistics for Grand Theft Auto IV. There's also a significant quantity of new content for Midnight Club: Los Angeles available in the Social Club.
Beginning today and until February 6, players can sign up and then register for the first tournament. At first, those interested will be competing in Time Trial challenges that take place in the Race and Surf race and then the finalists will move on to head to head championships played on various tracks. Players will only be allowed to use C Class cars in the first tournament.
The winner is set to be given the Rockstar Games Starter Cup on February 13 and he/she will also receive a check worth 500 dollars, named the Rockstar Warehouse grand prize. After the completion of this first competition, Rockstar will announce new events. To be eligible to take part in them, you need to live in one of the following countries: the United States, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
It's interesting to see that, despite the worsening economic situation, gaming companies are ready to innovate in order to get more players to try out their products. It remains to be seen whether the Midnight Club: Los Angeles Official World Championship Series will have an impact on sales.
