Age of Empires: Castle Siege will arrive on Microsoft’s modern operating systems next month, with the company revealing in a trailer rolled out recently that everyone will be allowed to download it free of charge.

Specifically optimized for the touch, this new version of the game will also offer support for Windows Phone 8.1 and will include cross-platform gameplay support, which means that you’ll be able to play it in multiplayer mode with friends owning smartphones or tablets running Microsoft’s modern operating system.

Not much has been revealed about this new version of Age of Empires, but we do know that it’ll include the traditional six civilizations and that a freeware license will be offered to both smartphone and tablet users.

And still, there’s a catch. While you won’t be asked to pay for downloading the game, in-app purchases will still be offered and they will be required for what Microsoft calls “accelerated gameplay.”

Microsoft also revealed on the official teaser page of the game that Windows Phone player would be required to download the game via Wi-Fi, with a minimum of 168 MB needed to install all files.

At this point, no other details are available, but watch the video below and let us know what you think in the comment box after the jump.
