The cloud-based storage service has received a new major pack of improvements

Approximately two weeks after Microsoft proudly revealed that SkyDrive, its cloud-based storage service, had reached 250 million users, the company steps back in front of the media with a new important announcement.

SkyDrive has been updated to be not only faster, but also to make photo management a bit easier with a photo timeline support.

“Starting today and rolling out over the next 48 hours, we're making it easier for you to see all of your photos in SkyDrive across all your albums and folders based on a timeline view,” the company said this morning.

Basically, the new feature allows users to quickly view pictures stored in their account based on the event and time, obviously without even closing the browser.

“In the timeline view you can scroll down to navigate through all the images. They're organized into groups by event and time. Take 20 pictures at a birthday party with your phone, and then a photo of your parking spot at the airport a few hours later? Now they'll appear as two different groups in the timeline,” it continued.

“The new view is convenient when you want to quickly get to a photo from June and you only have access to a web browser. Maybe the reason you only have access to a web browser is because your laptop was accidentally destroyed by a random camping accident.”

In addition, SkyDrive is one of the two services that received Google Talk support, which means that its users can freely talk to their friends on Google.

This new update is clearly aimed at Gmail and Google Drive users who are planning to make the switch to Microsoft’s services, such as Outlook.com and SkyDrive. It remains to be seen, however, whether Google is also planning to fight back with a new round of improvements for its services.
