Users will continue to enjoy 25GB of free storage in SkyDrive

Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud service offers 25GB of free storage at the moment, all available for free for those users who have a Live / Hotmail account.

25GB means a lot when it comes to storing photos and different other files into the cloud, but it appears that there are users who feel that this is not enough.

For them, Microsoft is reportedly gearing up to expand the free SkyDrive storage space as part of paid subscriptions.

In addition to the said 25GB of free storage space, users will also be able to choose an extra 20GB, 50GB, or 100GB of space to be added to their accounts, depending on their needs.

Recent screenshots that leaked over at Brazilian site Gemind unveiled not only this, but also the fact that Microsoft might be set to ask $10, $25, or $50 per year from users interested in adding more storage to their SkyDrive.

Nothing has been confirmed on the matter for the time being but, if the rumor pans out, SkyDrive will become a more appealing option when compared to other cloud storage services out there, such as DropBox.

At the moment, those who use this service need to pay $9.99 per month for 50GB of storage, or $19.99 per month for 100GB.

SkyDrive is currently accessible from home computers via a web browser, but files stored in the could can also be accessed from mobile devices, both via web browsers and through native applications.

Apparently, the same will soon be possible for Windows PC and Mac users. Dedicated applications are expected to be released for them in the near future, most probably with functionality that matches the one available via the web app.

For the time being, however, nothing has been confirmed on this, and we should wait for a formal announcement before speculating any further.
