Microsoft Attacks Sony on PlayStation 3 Statements

- Xbox is contesting Europe

By: Andrei Dumitrescu, Games Editor

At last week’s PlayStation Day Europe event the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, David Reeves, declared that the PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 in Europe when talking about absolute sales numbers. Now Microsoft's own Aaron Greenberg is answering Sony on those claims and not on the best of terms.

While talking to Destructoid the Microsoft representative stated that "We have been fighting Sony's promises from the day we entered the market. Three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out the door".

Greenberg thinks that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is the real winner in the console battle, as it has by far the best features, the best game line-up and the better community implementation. And, of course, Greenberg went on to claim that the numbers Reeves used are flawed. As he tells the story PS3 only dominates the last few months in sales, while the Xbox has a respectable lead when it comes to absolute numbers.

He went on to say that Sony was all about words and not enough about actual implementation. He questioned the results that the Blu-ray victory in the "format wars" has had on the sales of the gaming consoles and the delays regarding PlayStation Home as well as the rumored PlayStation video store. To him the victory that Sony claimed was but a hollow one, not supported by the reality of the market.

Greenberg thinks that "The days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over, I think the pressure is now really on them more than ever to deliver on all of these promises". We'll see how Sony responds to all these claims.
