Even the series' producer wants this

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption seemed to put a lid on the series and no news of any further developments was heard. Retro Studios didn't have any official releases or content in their schedule and not even rumors surfaced about the series. But it looks like the game might see some more action after all. In a recent heart-to-heart with Kotaku gaming site, producer Kensuke Tanabe says he sees a glimmer of hope for the game and new ideas might regenerate the title.

"As all I take part in is the Prime series, I am not capable of commenting on the whole Metroid series," the producer says. "But we will keep considering multiplayer for the Prime series. For instance, I think I can come up with some unique ideas using the Morph Ball, which is a specific skill of Samus." The franchise had another go at the multiplayer in the past and it didn't seem to be that bad. Even with the hardware-imposed boundaries of the DS, the platform on which Metroid Prime Hunters was released on, the game did pretty well.

Even if Hunters was developed by Nintendo and not Retro Studios, the past experience might be enough to motivate the developers. And willpower is all it takes to start something. This, along with the encouragement of the series creator should be more than enough to spark the light of creation. Whether a new multiplayer experience will be born from the Metroid Primes remains to be seen, but this can only be seen as good news.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a first-person action-adventure game, set six months before the action of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The story develops around bounty hunter Samus Aran as she assists in fending off the Space Pirates. While on a mission, she and her fellow bounty hunters are attacked by the Dark Samus, an evil version of our heroine, which infects them with a mutagenic material called Phazon. Separated from her team, she is sent to rejoin her missing hunters, find out what has happened to them and stop the spread of the Phazon across the galaxy, while suffering from the growing corruption herself.
