Konami's blockbuster goes the multiplayer way

The last time we heard about the famous MGS series was back at the Games Convention in Leipzig, where the fourth installment was the star. This time Metal Gear Online turns from a project to reality and we've got some fresh gameplay footage for you MGS fans, below. Aside from being the standard multiplayer game, the title will give Snake's fans a chance to battle it out together, sharing the same feelings provided by the brilliant series.

I am a Metal Gear Solid fan and I would really hate to see the series going down the drain, because of an online title. Yeah, we already know the fanbase's response to this game: they will criticize it reminding everyone that one of the Metal Gear's strongest attributes was the storyline. Replace it with mindless deathmatches and you've got a disappointment, instead of a blockbuster.

This also happened with Final Fantasy XI, as Square Enix decided, after releasing FF X to turn the series into a collection of online games. After playing the XI title, the majority of the fans wanted the single player mode back. Many stayed and are still roaming the servers, but there are always a couple of die-hard fanatics who would kill to bring back the feeling of a certain game. Will Metal Gear Online feed the gamers' thirst for frags and mindless combat or give them a reason to start appreciating the potential of a multiplayer MGS?

In the meantime we remind you that there's always that neat Metal Gear Solid 4 title coming, so even if the online version of the game turns out to be a disappointment, we'll find some consolation playing Kojima's masterpiece. I just hope we won't be seeing an online Silent Hill or Resident Evil title, as that would really shatter the confidence of many, in the game developers.
