Many Batman fans might not agree with Warner Bros.’ choice for Batman in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel 2” but, as far as Matt Damon is concerned, Ben Affleck is just perfect for the role of the Caped Crusader.

Granted, Matt also happens to be Affleck’s best friend but he’s trying to not let that influence his judgment.

Speaking about the casting news with Times of India, Damon argues in favor of Affleck by actually downplaying Batman, which is bound to sit bad with fans.

“If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman,” he says.

“Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that,” Damon continues.

He also has a few choice words about the Internet furor that started shortly after the announcement and that even translated into several petitions being started by fans, asking for Affleck to be uncast from the movie.

“I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it's kind of funny. You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set,” Matt says.

Also on the topic, Damon crushes fans’ hopes of seeing him opposite Ben as Robin. All those hilarious memes (see the GIF below for an example) that have been making the rounds since the announcement have served no purpose, it seems – other than to entertain us, of course.

“I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman. Somebody sent me a picture actually. It was really funny. But it's safe to say I won't be Robin,” Damon explains.
