MapQuest has recently released its MapQuest 4 Mobile software solutions for users of a handset running under the BlackBerry operating system. A wide range of phones from Research In Motion have seen support for the new app, though it seems that the newer models like Curve 8900, Bold 9700 and Tour have limited support.

The BlackBerry application from MapQuest is available for download from the BlackBerry App World, bringing to the table the detailed and friendly map style MapQuest’s solution is already known to come with when its maps are concerned, as well as aerial maps, offering users the possibility to enjoy an eagle-eye view that can prove a great option for orientation.

The features list of the solution also includes: - Interactive Maps for Mobile Screens – MapQuest 4 Mobile uses smaller map images for mobile screens. This allows you to pan and zoom without waiting for long downloads. - Directions – MapQuest 4 Mobile generates the same accurate directions you’ve come to trust from MapQuest.com. - Search – Search for a business, either by name, or just a category. Map it, get directions or call the business with a click. - Traffic – Color-coded traffic flows alert you to conditions in your locale, while incident icons appear on the map to help you avoid the latest road construction or accidents along the way. - Find Me – MapQuest 4 Mobile uses your phone’s GPS chip to locate you, keep track of your progress along a route, or simply find your location when you are lost (if your handset is GPS enabled). - My Places – This new feature will allow registered My Places users on MapQuest.com to view their saved maps and routes on MapQuest 4 Mobile.

According to the company, while at the moment the solution features support for BlackBerry handsets like 8100, 8110, 8120, 8130, 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330, 8800, 8820, 8830 and 9000, newer popular models should also see support in the near future, including 9700 and 9630. The MapQuest 4 Mobile can be downloaded on a BlackBerry phone from RIM's software portal, yet Sprint customers are also offered the possibility to get it via the “PocketExpress” application.
