The war has begun

The moment Apple has launched the iPhone, almost every human that saw it said the old fashioned cellphones are going to be extinct in a very short period of time. And they seem to have been right because the mobile phone manufacturers have aligned to the new fashion imposed by Apple.

First, there was LG. They have launched the KE850 handset, a device with a great deal of innovations and, of course, controllable via the integrated touchscreen. They also launched a custom version in cooperation with Prada and the product of their collaboration has reached into a lot of mobile lovers out there.

Now the next step is taken by Samsung, the exact same company which has declared through one of its representatives that the iPhone launch represents a great jump in the evolution of the mobile communications technology. They have also promised they will work harder to prove what they are capable to do and trust me they surely must have a wizard or two in their developing team.

The result of those declarations is the Ultra Smart F700 cellphone, a handset announced by Samsung today and a new addition to their Ultra portfolio of phones. The F700 is going to be presented to the public during the 3GSM convention so you'd better show up!

This is a device with a lot of power packed inside a package filled with goodies. If you ever thought the iPhone's display was a big deal with its multi-touch capabilities you were right, but here comes another thing that will definitely blow your mind: F700's 2.78 inch 256 k colors TFT display includes the Vibetonz technology which lets users feel the virtual screen buttons they press by using responsive vibrations and a ?Drag and Drop? touch interface.

And that's not all! The F700 also has a side sliding QWERTY keyboard, specially prepared for the people that will never get used to enter text using the touchscreen. It also features a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPDA), a data transfer technology capable of reaching speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps.

The F700 has GSM 900/1800/1900 and UMTS 2100 MHz radios and its spec sheet is completed by the wireless EDGE and Bluetooth connectivity, the multimedia player capable of playing MPEG4, H.264, H.263, AAC, AAC+, eAAC, Real, Real MP3 files, the Java technology, the full HTML browser, the Flash UI interface and the microSD memory expansion card slot.

The launch of the iPhone now seems to have been the best thing that could happen for the mobile market to take the next step towards better cellphones and, at the moment, we are probably witnessing the next big technical revolution (when referring strictly to mobile phones).

As Geesung Choi, the President of Samsung?s Telecommunications Network Business said ?the introduction of our Ultra Smart F700 reflects the needs of today?s consumers by including features such as touch screen, enhanced connectivity to mobile internet, and access to an array of multimedia content, the Ultra Smart F700 is a good example of how mobile phone will evolve in the future. Samsung will focus on bringing products that reflect and pursue our position as a premium leader?.

Taking into consideration all the things I wrote above and every piece and bit of feature available on the Samsung Ultra Smart F700 handset, I guess it's safe to suppose that at the time Apple is going to launch their iPhone we might have a totally different perspective on what a high-end cellphone really is.

Even worse, we might just think of it as the grandfather of the modern cellphones if they won't hurry up with its launch :)!
