Mach Xtreme Technology has started to roll out a new series of solid state drives that target budget-conscious enthusiasts users and are based on a second-generation SandForce SSD controller to deliver top of the line performance.

The new series is dubbed the DS Fusion and, at this time, comprises just two drives, which sport 60GB and 120GB of storage space, and use the 2.5-inch form factor.

At the heart of both of these units stands an unnamed SandForce SF-2200 SSD processor that seems to be paired with slower, but also cheaper, asynchronous NAND Flash memory.

Similar configurations were also used by Mach Xtreme's competitors to deliver budget-friendly SandForce drives, and some of the most well-known models to go this route are the OCZ Agility 3 and the Mushkin Chronos.

Fortunately, the performance hit isn't as severe as one would think and the drives can still achieve sequential write speeds of up to 510MB/s, while sequential reads are rated at 540MB/s.

According to Mach Xtreme, maximum I/O performance should reach 80,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second).

Like is the case with most other SSDs that are available out there, these numbers vary depending on the capacity of the drive, as smaller units usually don't have all the memory channels populated, leading to a loss of performance.

The rest of the specification sheet lists an idle and active power consumption of 1.6W and 2.8W, respectively, while MTBF is estimated at 2.0 million hours.

As all SandForce SF-2200-based drives, the DS Fusion sports a native SATA 6Gbps connection and it supports the DuraClass and DuraWrite technologies.

Unfortunately, Mach Xtreme refrained itself from providing any information regarding the release date and price of the DS Fusion SSD series.
